17.05.09: Very last day in Oz!! We just chilled out in the YHA lounge before waiting for the plane...nothing much to tell except Sean got searched for explosives at the airport. We thought that the wild beard and the Irish passport had to do something with it!! Arrived very late in Christchurch...and it is cold!!!
18.05.09: We did not put the alarm on and we slept in..!! We strolled in Christchurch, lovely little town, with a nice Cathedral in the city centre. Sean went to the hairdre...
31.05.09: We wake up only to find a great white coat of snow outside. They fore-casted snow showers yesterday. Seems it was an understatement. You can see the level rising by the hour. Ok, so I guess we can't go walking now. What should we do: just snooze the whole day and see what happens or get out of here before it gets worse? After receiving some info on the conditions towards Christchurch, we decided to choose the second option. Snow chains are required, though. A premiere for the Irish ...

... but shoes...finally! Yippee...they may not want to sell them to people in Nelson..gripe gripe...but they can't stop NElsonians buying them in CHCH! mah hahahaha!
We went to see Steve, Irana and Iouna (Apologies Steve and Irana, I have a feeling I spelt your daughters name wrong....sorry!) We had a lovely tour of their house and garden. I loved the colours the house is being painted...bright in a street full of boring ...
... its so moving. I make friends with an Aussie lady from Tazmania and a Spanish lady and the three of us cant get over how majestic this place is.
As this is a Lord of the Rings (LOTR) tour the driver tells us all about the cast and crew and how they found this location to make the film. They made the 3 films in one continuous shoot over 18 months- no mean feat in a landscape as remote and isolated as this. The weather is stunning too- clear blue skies and ...
... out of order and against the T&C they have with their bank. After many months they finally gave in and refunded me the surcharge.
I'm wondering how many other thousands of worldwide travellers have also been charged and are due a refund.

... unsecured network that I could latch onto. Starbucks wanted me to sign my life away. It was a hassle. Hence when I got a reasonable system I tended to upload two or even three prepared blogs. You don't actually just miss the blog stuff. There's email and using the web for research that you just normally now take for granted. An example would be after we got back from Gibraltar and some of us were wondering why the Germans early in ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand daviddx... only nicer with more to see and do). We hired a rowing boat for an hour and went up and down the River Avon feeding the ducks and taking in the sunshine. We finished the day with fresh blue fish and chips on SOL Square, where all the bars and restaurants were picking up for Saturday night. Christchurch also has a tramway running through it, which was introduced in 1905. On our final day, we took ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand mikeandpaula_09... However the centre and tourist areas are pretty nice - it does quite a good job of Cambridge / Oxford imitation and is like England in a lot of ways - for example, the range of restaurants selling food from other countries!! And indeed we had Greek food which was very good, and unusually the waiter doubled as the entertainment - half way through the evening he switched to playing the guitar and singing! The buildings etc are much more like English ones - both the ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand yvetteandjack... heatwave the week before. My good friend Angela came and picked us up from the airport and after a quick shower and change we headed into town for a night out. Both Manda and I have lived in Sydney before so some of Manda's friends came out too and we had a fun night in Paddy Maguires (there are Irish bars everywhere!). Eventually Manda and I dragged Angela and her fiance Scott up to Oxford Street to frequent an old favourite pizza place and then they decided to call ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand littlemisbakpak... was the end of the season so it was quite but we had fun. So we said goodbye to the ski fields and headed for the east coast, visiting two art deco towns of Napier and Hastings. Both towns were re-built in the 1930's after a huge earthquake, hence the large amount of art deco buildings. We stayed only one night in Hastings, as we didn't think much of the campsite we stayed in. We generally stuck with a chain of campsites and the facilities varied in each, some very modern ...
