... Peak and providing a view of the violence and the beauty of nature. Rocks of 30 tons thrown away for 5 miles. Devastating magma. And the youngest rocks of California. New stones formed in the eruption. Only a hundred years old laying side by side next to ancestors of 27.000 years old (from a previous eruption of Mt Lassen). We were incredibly cold this morning. We took the RV and drove all the way to the south entrance, meanwhile getting warm. Our first stop were Sulphur ...

... The water sources were not that spread out. And even if they were, not a big deal because it had been not hot at all. I made it to the Middle Fork of the Feather River, not realizing how much elevation it dropped. Down to 3000 feet from 7000. This river is nice, with warm water and a nice swimming hole. I am glad i camped here. Tomorrow I have a steep climb out of ...

... cliffs and fed only by snow and rainfall. Leaving the National Park we found a primitive site, not to far south, and spent the night.

I was going over the map, for a route to Lassen Volcanic National Park in California, when I noticed Lava Beds National Monument tucked in just south of the Oregon Border. Wow! What a find! The ranger at the fee gate described it as a little known GEM. He was right. This park has hundreds of lava tubes, ...
