PIT STOP

After breakfast, we packed up- takes about an hour - and headed off.

At Warwick we filled with diesel and did the numbers to find we are travelling at 10 1/2 kms per Litre and we are happy with that.

Quick trip to the supermarket and we are out of here

Ah, Nature!

... surprised to have a small joey suddenly hop out of my way. Kangaroos and campsites tend to go together, I have discovered, but when humans are about, the kangaroos tend to make tracks pretty quickly. This one, however, only went a few feet, and then I saw its mother was also there, sitting about 2 metres away from me, looking utterly unconcerned about my presence.

Morning came at last, and I stumbled out of my tent to make a cup ...

DAY ONE

... the dot if my plan works. I am waiting on my Eurorail pass which will give me 21 days in 21 Countries. It is hopefully on it's way via Courier as we speak. I have just found out it should be on it's way the only problem is the company I bought the ticket from sent it through the wrong delivery system. I have been told I might not get the ticket until Friday (tomorrow). So all I know is it's somewhere between ...

... path, and the sounds of the rainforest are dramatic to say the least. All manners of hoots, yelps and screeches were our soundtrack. There wasn't much wildlife on display except for one intrepid wild turkey who always ahead of us. I called him Franky, the Sherpa Turkey. Every so often he'd turn up, bobbing his head this way and that, pecking at the ground, totally oblivious to us. When we reached the summit, I was almost ...

... Fiona, my wwoofing host, to tell her that I had arrived. We arranged to meet at 12 so I had the morning to hang out in cafes, take my last look at the beach before heading to the rainforest and to contemplate this next stage of my journey. Fiona and Ajay (her two year old son) picked me up from outside the hostel and we began our 30 minute drive to Barringbar (north of Byron). I felt something tickle my foot but thought nothing of it until I saw ...

... a hang gliding enthusiast whilst working in Brisbane, Australia and this naturally made me want to find out more about it, as these things sometimes do when you get the chance to talk to someone actually doing it - if you get what I mean. So this Hang Gliding Enthusiast; Dave is from Buxton, England and has been flying now for a good few years. It was the flying that brought him here to Brisbane due to its close proximity to Mt ...

Then on the way out we saw some sort of monitor lizard that was as big as a small dog and longer as well. South west rocks was the next day and uneventful just another day on the beach in australia. Then we went to a place called brooms head beach. When we ...

We have pretty much had the full and complete Aussie experience! John Mitchell, his wife Thea, and their amazing daughters Ashlee and Meg took us on a fabulous weekend of trekking though rain forests, visiting waterfalls, and watching wildlife. With John and Ashlee, we left Byron Bay and Al and Melissa in the morning and made our way inland on a beautiful drive to Beaudesert to join up with Thea and Meg. We all put on our hiking shoes, headed back to the car and set off for ...

Stands of tall, elegant gum trees dot the property, and wallabies and colourful birds are in abundance. We were shown a few of the innovative constructions they've installed - the 'chook tractor', a hen house that gets moved along every two days, so that the chickens gradually scratch and fertilise a patch of land where potatoes are ...
