To be at a geological border
Highlight of the day: walking all day in volcano craters (and active, the volcanoes) and a hot thermal bath to soak the stress out.
Song of the day: How deep is your love, The Bee Gees
Weather: no rain... yeah. but cooooooold...
Scenery: Can see mountain tops now, and snow, from my motel room.
Food highlight: a soup, doesn't seem much but so comforting.

Detour to NZ's Biggest Lake
Ah, Taupo. I'm sure you're a beautiful place when dark clouds and fat raindrops don't obscure my view of you or prevent me from wanting to explore your town. Lucky for me, you do have a lovely river, impressive waterfall, and peaceful natural hot spring that can be enjoyed even on a rainy day. And yes, your lake is huge, and I can appreciate its beauty even when the sun isn't shining.
I had booked my Taupo accomodation ahead of time, ...
