Charles Court Motel Greymouth

Luckily the next mornign in Greymouth was a lot warmer! We got up and fed the ducks that had spent the night under our campervan and then drove to the supermarket to stock up on a few things. We then waljked round the town- which was really strange and mostly consisted of cafes like all New Zealand towns! We didn't do a lot but had breakfast in a cafe- I had a boiled egg and a crab on a a stick! Greymouth wasn't that great compared to other places we had been- but it was a free ...

Wir laufen nach ausgiebig** Beobachtung wied** zurueck Richtung Parkplatz wo wir uns beim zweiten Blick auf den Strand **st so richtig dessen Zaub** bewusst w**den Wir machen **st von oben einige Fotos und gehen dann nach unten, wo wir dank Ebbe einen ca. 300m tiefen schwarzen Strand bis zum Me** haben.

Marlborough Sounds
After a 3 hour ferry ride, we arrived at Picton in the south island.

We set up camp here for the night before heading to Anakiwa - the town at the start of the Queen Charlotte Track, one of New Zealand's Great Walks. Unfortunately, the full walk is three whole days long, and because we had the campervan we couldn't commit to the full thing. ... comprends pourquoi... c'est vraiment superbe!! Nous nous arretons en chemin a Cape Fowling opur marcher sur la plage et manger la specialite new zealandaise de glace (Hockey Pockey). Nous nous arretons aussi aux Pancake Rocks a Punakaiki (rochers de crepes) , et en effet on dirait des piles de crepes: de drole de formations formees a cause de l'erosion de la mer et du vent. Dans la soiree nous arrivons a Barrytown uo ce sera soiree deguisee!!.. et le ...

... SUPER cool, but pretty cool. The hostel was amazing. It was a huge mansion called Noah's Ark. Each room had a particular animal theme. In the monkey room, monkeys were painted all over the walls, and in the Zebra room, there was a zebra-skin bedspread and black and white stripes everywhere...that sort of thing. Obviously, jetting the next day to cruise to Franz Josef for some glacier action!!!

This brewery does bottles and two types of kegs only, but they manage to produce 6 mainstream beers (original, golden, radler, black, celtic, and pilsner (pilsner not brewed here), two special seasonal beers (summer and winter), and the odd one off like the (possibly) soon to be released cherry and chocolate stout. At the end there was a chance to sample each of the beers, this time poured ...

... which we undertook, torch in hand, in search of the glowworms which apparently live there. All we managed though, was to stumble around for a while in the damp and dark, stooped to avoid the rocky roof and unable to tell which way to go. The weather had brightened suddenly and conveniently for our viewing of Pancake Rocks and continued to brighten along the coastline as we passed through Barrytown (worth a picture of the sign I thought!) and on to Greymouth ...

... wir meine Lieblingsbrauerei Neuseelaendischen Gerstenwaesserchens "Monteiths" besichtigt, haben abende mit der Gitarre am Strand verbracht und die Kalksteinfelsen mit ihrer Pfannkuchenartigen Schichtung in Punakaiki besichtigt. Dies sind alte komprimierte Schlamm- und Fossilschichten die sich vor 35 Millionen Jahren am Boden eines Urmehres gebildethaben und dann durch tektonische Verschiebungen hochgedrueckt worden sind.
