... realised that he was just really, really cold, so I put him away under a tree so I wouldn't step on him. He didn't think much of this, however, and made a valiant effort to run away and hide under some twigs. Being absolutely freezing and early morning, though, he was having trouble going more than a few steps at a time, so I got a piece of bark and put it over the top of him so he could hide until the sun came up. He seemed quite happy ...
Warwick, Queensland, Australia wayfaring... and $240 for travel insurance. I haven't worked out a budget yet as I have no idea how much I am going to need. I don't know if a stand by ticket will be extremely expensive. But for me it's not about the money I could have saved. It's more about the romantic idea of jumping on a plane and allowing fate to guide my way. I have however had a rude shock to my system when I realised if I were to take $10000 ...
Thulimbah, Australia nat_in_a_hat... can imagine the strain this last part put on me. I took like six breaks, huffing and wheezing like a geriatric sprinter every time. But I made it and with Franky in tow, I was rewarded with a stunning view. Maybe it was the high altitude, but it's remarkable how villainous a view like that can make you. Surrounded by a 360-degree vista of the countryside, all I could think of were ways to squash the ant-sized villages below ...
Murwillumbah, Australia chattermouth... over linguine dish, and the linguine was definitely green and black... a little odd but tasted soooo good! We walked around the weekly market on the Esplanade (the sidewalk next to the beach) for a while and looked at the opal jewelry and I bought a boomerang (!) before heading back to the apartment for half of Finding Nemo before we both fell asleep on the couch and I stopped the movie so we could go to bed. Saturday was bushwalking! We left the apartment at 8 am ...
Mt. Tambourine, Gold Coast Hinterland, Australia stanzie... more about where we were heading. Her house is on 1.5 acres and is surrounded my 300 acres of rainforest. She is working on land care and rainforest rejuvenation, so needs help with this. As we arrived we were greeted by Oscar, the senile and deaf dog, that forgets to stop barking. I was shown to my own room (thankfully no more hostels and smelly feet for me). We spent the first day chatting and taking a walk in the forest. Cam (short for ...
Barringbar, Australia marisafindlay... up with some theory and then in afternoons we leant how the glider was put together and practiced take off and landing - the difficult and important bits. Towards the end of the second day and a total of 45mins actual practice of running down a slope with an aerofoil strapped on I was getting lift and gliding, weight shifting to steer and doing flared landings. Like all things when it finally clicks it clicks. Sad that I ...
Mt Tamborine, Australia pidgeandpie... Byron bay. It was awesome there. its a little town right on the easternmost point of australia. It is totally dominated by backpackers. So the whole town is young and full of **** and vinager. I GOT MY TATOO. or at least my first tatoo.;) a little maple leave right above my left nipple. PROUD CANADIAN. Went out that night and got ****** out of my head and met two really cool brits, the night life there was awesome. It was a combination of ...
Brisbane, Australia adam_downunder... content with just one on our hands as some of their claws were really quite sharp! The birds were beautiful and it was great fun to feed them and have them fly about searching for the next handful of birdseed. Both Ashlee and Meg ended up with a bird perched on their heads at some point, they were much more daring than we were! The walk through this area was stunning. We wandered through rainforest, saw huge vines on the massive trees, followed pathways to suspended bridges ...
O'Reilly, Australia mr-mrs_pickles... they're trying to get rid of, and Rich helped with swinging the machete at some tall, nasty-looking thistles. Phew, seems like the Von Korffs have their work cut out for them trying to control the invaders! As we stood higher up the hill, looking out over the valley below and the Border Ranges in the distance, Alex explained his plans for self-sufficent water and energy sources and a sustainable earth-dug home, and we discussed the potential of the farm for various crops. We ...
Kyogle Shire, northern New South Wales, Australia idarich... day made for a pleasant half hour walk into the city, but it is noticeably cooler. After only a few months in S.E. Asia we hadn't realised how aclimatized we'd become until now. In the space of four days, we've gone from temperatures in the upper thirties in Brunei, the lower thirties in Darwin and now the mid twenties in Brisbane. Back in the IOM this is an absolute sorchio of a day, but here we're feeling a touch on the cool side. We're obviously expecting a ...
