Made it down the bay overnight

Survived a wild ride down the bay. Some of the roughest conditions we have experienced on the Chesapeake. Big waves. 30+ kt winds and lots of driving rain. Enjoyed our new cockpit enclosures as well as the heater we installed below. The AIS system which allowed us to identify ships during the night was a big help.

Navy ships don't use AIS so we slowed to enter Hampton Roads after sunrise. Still, with heavy ...

      Disappointing Virginia Beach!

      ... the next day!

We took a walk along part of the 3 mile boardwalk in Virginia Beach - what a disappointment! I read somewhere it's been named one of Top 10 Boardwalks so we were looking forward to it. It's nothing more than a bare, wide, concrete, ( yes concrete, not a board insight) highway with 1970's style boring hotels fronting it. ... was no sign of it in the cars, the bar..nothing. But what could I do... We carried on our day. Dipan made us an adorable breakfast. He made us pancakes and actually squeezed oranged to make juice! He's such a sweetheart. We spent the rest of the day napping, going to Kristina's pool, Chipotle, Ice cream (Dipan was my sugar daddy since my wallet was lost ;). We went back to Dipans to clean up for dinner, later at Outback by the river. We moved the clothes by where I ...

Today we drove for 4 hours, along the freeway with not too many cars. Fortunately for us no traffic delays in comparison with the traffic leaving Virginia Beach there were quite a few accidents on the other side of the divided highway that backed for miles, 4 different accidents in total. Arrived at the hotel, we fantastic views of the beach from the veranda. We went of a walk along the beautiful beach, one of the nicest beaches we have ...

... was waiting we immediately raised anchor and moved into the marina. Conveniently, space was available on the dock in front of Alize and this all worked out well to satisfy the request of CBP and getting Jim ashore at the same time. The CBP business was conducted routinely and before long Jim’s sister, her husband and son had arrived and local friends Wally and Patti. Soon another local ...
