      ... also oranges, so stopped at roadside and bought some, sweet and tasty. Then stopped in Oxnard, as sat nav wasn't being helpful, at a mall, which was full of rough looking Mexicans, thousands of them, felt like they might rob us as we were the only white people, so left in a hurry. More scary there than walking in streets of LA at night!

      ... shaky and upset....

      Back to finish off laundry marathon and a two hour swim in the pool for James and Ruth.

      We were sick of the car and so walked out from the hotel to find food. Also needed CROCS for Ruth as she had now got a 10p size hole in her CROCS and had been finding the pavaments a bit warm underfoot. Found the San Fran CROC emporium and got funky new CROCS all round.

      ... The girls friend is part of a Weddell seal tagging study in Antarctica…the same study I just applied to to be a seasonal tagger!

      Back onboard, Lily* and I laid out in the sun on the crew deck. It was so relaxing to just sit there looking out at sea on a deck chair cushion with nothing to do for a while.

      I worked the night shift which was Pirate Night. We all got dressed up in pirate costumes and talked pirate language all night. It was a pretty great day. ...
