The scenery on the trip into Carson City was beautiful and varied. We were surrounded by mountains---the Sierra Nevada to the west and the Virginia Range to the east. We passed through rocky desert areas with little vegetation except for sage and chapparel. In places there were grasslands with grazing cattle and sheep. For a good while we followed a shallow, winding river.
