      ... but they can never do justice to something like this. Most come back sometime and explore it close up - a trek would be ideal!

      Later on in the day we pass through Monument Valley - another awesome place of *********e mountains left in place after surrounding rock has been eroded away over the years. The shapes (monuments) were incredible - hope the photos do them justice!

      ... rain. I persisted and visited all three of the lakes up top; Ice Lake being by far the best of the three. Even with full cloud cover and rain, the lake was still a lovely blue. This is one hike that would be worth repeating at some future time, preferably when it is a clear day. I fully intend to return to Colorado, this time with a mountain bike in tow.       Wow, today was an awesome and amazing day!!! We started out at our cabin in Ouray, and drove out of town to the start of the Engineer Pass trail. This was around 8:00 in the morning, and we didn't see a paved road again until 4:45 that afternoon. We spent nearly nine hours bouncing around on rough and rocky dirt roads. Can you see now why I said that today was awesome?! (I happen to LOVE "jeeping!")
