Lake Te Anau - peace after Queenstown

We had great fun in Queenstown with a 4WD trek up into the mountains and jetboat ride before meeting up with Staurt as planned and dining finely again; venison carpaccio and confit of duck for me and an enormous T bone steak for Tim. Stuart had venison. Great bottle of Pinot Noir as well of ocurse. The following day, yesterday we went on the shotover jet - absolutely fab and hairraising along the Shotover rapids - then up the gondola for magnificent views of the town and two or three goes on ...

Milford Soundand friends again

We set off with a cloudy sky yesterday but it cleared into one of the sunniest and loveliest yet for our trip to Milford Sound. A gorgeous breakfast stop by a brook and breathtaking views at every turn made it a journey to remember and we had pleny of time for photos and a walk round at Milford Sound before boarding our vessell. Therre were fewer waterfalls as it had not rained for several days but it was an awesome sight. Great to hear about birdlife, rockslides and to appreciate for a few m...

The Drive from Lake Te Anua to Milford Sound

We began the day with cereal and coffee alongside Lake Te Anau. The lake is the 2nd biggest in New Zealand and was formed by a glacier. We had a stroll around the lake and saw the sea planes that take off from the lake on their scenic flights around the fiords. We headed into the town centre and booked our cruise on the Milford Sound, before going into a local shop to look for gloves. We went into a shop that had a huge big turquoise bird statue outside its door. The bird is a Takahe, which w...

Very pleased with Cambell's!!

from luv2globetrot
This is a great place to stay especially for a long stay. The units are huge...like a small apartment, with separate living room and bedroom. The decor was a little outdated (but not worn), but the view, the space and the cleanliness made up for that easily! All rooms face Lake Te Anau and the view is beautiful! There is a coin laundry and they provide detergent. The gardens are beautiful and Barry (the owner) is very nice and helpful. There is free internet in the room, but you should bring your own network cable. Barry did have one to lend us, though.

We would definitely stay here again...highly recommended!

Location, space, price...excellent choice.

As has been said before, the apartments in this lodge are HUGE - in fact the one we had is bigger than my sister in-laws apartment!

The rooms are comfortable, clean and the kitchen has all you need to be self sufficient. I suppose the rooms have a slightly dated look, but that's just nit-picking in my opinion. If you dont like the inside, sit on the veranda with a bottle of wine and watch the way the light changes on the lake as the sun sets.

Above average and at a good price.

A great motel

We drove into town with no plans, asked a local for the very best place to stay, were referred to Campbell's. We did a little comparison shopping and immediately were resolute that this was the incredible deal! The accommodations ranked among the most spacious and comfortable that we'd enjoyed in all of NZ - felt as if we had let an 1 bedroom apartment rather than a hotel room. We had a gorgeous view, every comfort, tons of room, a laundry room plus a place to wash your dusty car. The staff is extraordinarily kind and helpful. We really enjoyed watching our vacation videos on their TV. When we accidentally left behind our video cable attached to their TV, they quickly mailed it home to us, gratis

Quiet, clean, comfortable, convenient, great views, good value. What more can you ask for?

Grrrrreat Hotel

Wonderful place. All the space you could want PLUS free highspeed internet! (Supply your own laptop.) We were surprised to learn that other hotels charge as much as $32 (New Zeland) for this service. Full kitchen, wonderful deck to admire the lake and mountains. Five minute walk to restaurants and tours. Staff is friendly and unpretentious. This was our favorite hotel in New Zealand. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

Best value in New Zealand

Stayed at Campbells during our honeymoon in August of 2005.

Suite was very spacious with a nicely furnished kitchen.

The view of the lake was fantastic as the wife and I pulled the chairs to the open door and fell asleep looking at the stars over the mountains.

Loved Campbells.

Hi really enjoyed our stay at Campbells Motor Lodge. Fantastic views over lake. Be aware at some other lake front hotels rooms dont actually face the lake. Super friendly people. The apartment had everything needed to cook our own meals so didnt bother with restaurants. Really glad we chose Campbells. Drove our hire car to Milford sound. Spectacular views nearly all the way.

Nice Accomodation

from highdesertbadger
I agree with the previous two writers that this is a great place to stay. The grounds are beautiful and it's right across the road from the lake. It's a fairly short walk into town as well. We weren't able to get quite as good of a rate ($175 NZ) but we were there in early March when rates are higher in this part of the country. I enjoy the size of the unit, the comfort of the furniture and the high speed internet access.

Best room in New Zealand

from garyb2
We stayed at the Campbell Autolodge in October, 2004. It is not fancy, but the most comfortable and friendly stay we had in all of New Zealand! The room..really an apartment.. is about 1000 sq.ft. and is directly across the street from the lake. Beautiful setting with flowers on the grounds, short walk into town, full kitchen, guest Bar B Q and comfortable bed and sitting area. Our cost was $100 NZ per night. We would stay then again without question.

Comfort Plus

from porge
The Campbell Autolodge in Te Anau is situated on the lakefront with beautiful views. The units are huge, beautiful and very comfortable and well equipped. There was even a second TV and phone in the bedroom. The laundry was convenient and open 24 hrs. We paid a very reasonable tariff of $NZ110 per night.
