    A Last Minute Detour

... The view from high above looked like something you find on a post card. I really regret not blocking out a whole day to experience Niagara Falls. It's certainly a place that I'll have to return to someday.

From there I drove the rest of the way to Chicago. I arrived pretty late - around 9pm - and pretty exhausted. So the plan it to head to bed now and wake up tomorrow well rested and ready to go. Tomorrow will just be me and the city.

... The spray at the bottom of the falls themselves varies, but sometimes obscures much of the water fall, an achievement in itself. Some of the vantage points were out of action, walkways not maintained in winter, but the main footpath round the top gives a great view. If you want to go further, the maid of the mist sails in closer to get you wet, behind the falls lets you walk in behind, the fury of the falls takes you elsewhere and the Skylon, with its bulbous yellow ...

... permanently shrouds the falls. Our cruise on the Maid of the Mist was quite exciting, you can really feel the energy and force, of one of Mother Natures little works of art. The clouds had cleared, the sun was out, so even being soaked by the spray was quite pleasant. The falls are a result of an earthquake thousands of years ago, and I was told that 70,000 gallons of water per second tumbles over these cliffs. That's a whole lot of ...

    Trains and Niagara Falls

... and was a proper bargain. So this is how I started my journey from Chicago to Montreal.

At Chicago's union station hundreds of people all waited at the gate for our train to be ready to board. The train was going from Chicago to NYC and the whole journey would take about 21 hours. I had heard how bad the train system in the US is but I was willing to give it a try for the experience. I struggled to see why so many other people were doing it. I also had the ...
