    Nanning to Shanghai

A travel blog entry by kevinhogan on Sep 04, 2014

We were at the airport at Nanning for our early morning flight (0750) back to Shanghai. Everything went smoothly until I went through security, I must have a sign on my forehead saying pick me! I was patted down by a Chinese security lady (she was quite nice too) and had to empty stuff out of my back pack. Soon enough I was permitted to ...

... was being prepared. What a fantastic system and room he had, it was specifically designed as a home theatre room. An hour or so later we went up one level for great meal, some Chinese beer and NZ wine. It was funny watching them trying to figure out how to get into the wine with a corkscrew as it was a screw top. They had never seen it before. A great night was had and we never got back to our hotel until midnight. We had to be up at 0500 to be at the airport at 0630 to fly back to ...

Today we got picked up by Jen's cousins husband Xiao Wei and went too Binyang where Jen grew up. Binyang is a small village with a population of about 650 people. Jen's uncle is 63 and a real strong fit guy, we climbed this Mountain through thick scrub to her mothers and grandmothers grave sites. It was 36 degrees so the perspiration was running . We cleared the graves and then they had this ritual that I ...

Didn't do much today, we got picked up by one of Jen's cousins and went to the Nanning Zoo. Well what a disappointment, the big cats were in small in closures rill of mud and no green rass at all, it was discussing. The ones that were not in there they were in concrete cages and nothing like their environment. All in all it was a great disappointment that the would treat these animals like this. In the evening we went for a walk and did a bit of ...

    Detain Waterfalls

Today we were picked up by one of Jen's old class mates Song and his family. They took us all the way to the Detian waterfalls about 250 Kms away. It was a trip to be remembered in several ways. Firstly I was at the mercy of a male Chinese driver for a total of 500 Kms. We saw two crashes one on the way there and one on the way back where vehicles had run off the road into very deep water tables. The only reason for this was vehicles overtaking around ...
