... was instantly mountains with snow caps. Breath taking view. It is a bit cooler and I noticed when leaving the motel yesterday that the air was cooler - even more so here I guess as we're up high. Talking of high - Trinidad is just past the border, and already we have seen stores that sell marajuana. Legal here. And the campsite smells of it with wafts coming from neighboring tents. When we checked-in with the park ranger, Jonathan asked about bears and that ...

Today we left Ruidoso and headed north to spend a few weeks in Colorado. We drove about 5 hours to Lathrop State Park, outside Walsenburg, Colorado. We've been here several times and like it enough to keep coming back. It's pretty hot, compared to Ruidoso--90ish around 3:00 when we got here, but by 6:00, it was really nice out. We're only here for one night and will be moving on ...

Stayed in the parking lot of Safeway in this ole mining town last night. All the businesses are closed down and boarded up. We got some Mexican grub and took a much needed walk after driving over 800 miles...much of that on back roads through dusty one intersection towns with no people and miles and miles of ...

... it was time to get on the road.

We are staying at a State park tonight just outside of Walsenberg,CO. It is a beautiful state park and we are able to have our first camp fire tonight. The kids and Kevin are having fun playing “football” but I keep reminding them to stay out of the grass - cacti everywhere!

Tom and I woke up at 6:30 and decided to do our annual hike up Hogback Ridge. Some of my pictures will show the wonderful views that are seen from the top. When we got done, we ate breakfast and got ready for the day. Then we headed to the Visitor Center to do our first blog.

After sending out the 1st blog, Tom, Sheeba, and I headed back towards Trinidad to visit the Ludlow ...
