We awakened to sunshine and blue skies on our first day in North Dakota. Our campsite wasn't all that beautiful, but the surrounding area is amazing. ... at least a decade ahead of the locals at all times. The day started poorly as we headed to Walmart to buy picnic provisions for the day. With a huge sign stating that it was a 24/7 store we attempted to enter at 11am.....or was it 12pm? Who knows? ... view turned brown and flat. We drove through the city of Billings, Montana's capital and biggest city. It can only be described as ugly, obviously a key distribution and processing point for the surrounding farmlands and hugely industrial. Don't get me wrong, Montana is the most beautiful state we have driven through with stunning nature, craggy mountain ranges and prairie lands, the towns and cities however do not live up to the surroundings.
