... about this, but it turned out to be quite the popular tourist destination! The store itself was true to its name; it had fabrics, food, baked good, toys, and even suits of armour! Our final stop was an old growth forest called Cathedral Grove. Some of the trees are 800 years old, while most of the forest is 300 years young. It's hard to get a sense of the enormity, but we have tried to include Evan in some of the pictures to give a sense of ...

          Goodbye, Vancouver

In the morning we ride 22 miles to the ferry for Vancouver Island, where we'll be for the next 5 days. Can hardly believe we are here and actually starting this ride, after thinking about and planning for it for the last 1 1/2 years!

Hope all is well with all our family and ...

As I had only slept in bunk beds and mainly shared bathrooms for the last weeks, I was now more than thrilled to actually sleep in a normal bed and have a private bathroom as well. (Hint, hint, I am not the typical backpacker.) What a comfort!!! I felt blessed and was very grateful for ...

... and best use", without, no surprise, having to repay any taxes avoided during the time the forest companies held it as Tree Farms or Managed Forests. Does this have a familiar ring to it?

Mac Blo, now taken over by the mining giant Noranda, began by selling a large tract of Managed Forest on Saltspring Island, a neighbouring Gulf Island, to a local real estate company. Then they looked to Galiano, where the spectre of the unplanned development of 7800 acres of land ...

          Enroute to Brussels

Another sunny beautiful day. Had a nice bread and cheese breakfast with Inez and Klaas ,finished packing and then had a toetje in the back garden. It's so quiet in the garden except for the roosters and military exercises with the band, bang, bang. We will e getting off at Gare Bruselles Nord and walking ....we think....it's not the best area of town N so we may take a tram if it feels grungy. Then off to fine the apt at 4 Kanonstraat, unpack a litlle and do ...
