... a relatively small place but being so close to Christchurch is popular with NZ locals and tourists alike. There were several backpacker establishments as well as B&B type accommodation, caravan park and motels.

Leaving Akaroa we had to backtrack out of the Banks Peninsula to regain the main highway; returning us to 45kms from Christchurch before heading south. The bendy roads were not nearly as fearful ...
