De route van Las Vegas naar Ely is inderdaad zoals we verwachtten: lange rechte stukken voortreffelijk asfalt, op en neer golvend in een woestijnachtig landschap.

De eerste grote verplaatsing die we gaan doen gaat via Ely NV naar Salt Lake City UT om via Alpine WY door Yellowstone naar onze eerste stop voor meerdere dagen te gaan.
De dagetappes zijn beperkt tot maximaal 250 miles per dag, maar evengoed zullen we bij aankomst in West Yellowstone al een kleine 900 miles gereden hebben.

... wind. As we progressed into Nevada, handily welcomed by the small blue sign, the roads seemed to straighten out and the wind picked up. Maybe it has to do with the gambling here, who knows?
We had been seeing snow in the mountains and on a few vehicles that approached us. The temperature continued to drop and got down to 34 on one of the several passes we crossed. At one point there was slush on the road and significant snow nearby.
... slots at least once. We both had five dollars to spend. Julia spun three times and won 26 dollars and I spun many more times and won 10 dollars. We cashed out quick and left with 20 extra bucks! Not a crazy win but it paid for breakfast.

... the residents aren't much better. Half the town, at least is in ghost town decline; doesn't seem to be any industry except tourism, meaning mainly casinos. Pathetic. But there is an interesting historic railroad museum that still operate both the diesel and steam trains that were essential for transporting ore, and now caters to tourists who like to ride the rails. I didn't get good photos for this place, but it was interesting.
