After hitting a few wineries near Canberra, we made our windy way down to Bateman's Bay - back to the coast :) Bateman's Bay is just really nice and picturesuqe - especially the motel we were stopping in as it has a wonderful view over the bay. We had the most amazing thunderstorm during the night and the next day and there were even dolphins playing in the bay - magical :) Had a good time there - though didn't feel to good the sunday morning after a heavy session .... but we did make it up ...

... along the beach for 45mins to the town of Tuross on Saturday to buy newspapers and check out the shops; the lake along the way was land locked but a fisherman told us he was catching flathead.
Special treats/events at Potato Point were:
Humpback whales and calves slowly making their way south only 50 metres from shore on the calm ocean,
Dolphins surfing in the emerald water,
Yellow tail black cockatoos ...
... best so far which we had eaten! See photos!
1750: Back at the cabin and rest! We slept early, maybe was the cold weather or we were too tired after the tour or simply there was nothing we could do anyway!
*Note: Love the leisure life here! Everyone seems to be so relax! Driving was relax here unlike back home, everyone was rushing, very impatient! However, night time is boring as nothing much exciting! As it was winter season, the daytime was short, it was dark around 5pm!
Well I'm sure that most everyone has heard by now about the bush fires that hit Australia over the weekend. First off, I'm fine. I'm over on the east coast now, and there haven't really been fires anywhere near me. Unfortunately, lots of people in Victoria haven't been so lucky. Its pretty crazy. In some cases, entire towns are just completely destroyed (well mostly, more on that later), and many people didnt make it out, or got caught in their cars trying ...
Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia murf6481... we have managed to steer clear of the Christmas rush at the shops which is a welcome change for us this year. Just in case you are all worried about Jacob and Claire missing out on the Christmas festivities, we have hung up some tinsel, baubles and xmas lights, and when we get to Tathra (where we will be for xmas) we have a little tree to put up too. The next time we blog it will be after Christmas Day, so Merry Christmas to all.
Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia serenitynow... way round Down Under. Go figure. They manage to drive on the right side of the road, yet they still manage to bodge the switches! Anyway, after mastering Ozzy electrics, we drove to Pebbly Beach, where wild kangaroos were supposedly easy to see. My guide book said that they were so tame that you could hand feed them. We arrived to a sign telling us not to feed them. Unperturbed, we walked onto the beach looking for them (we had already seen one ...
Batemans Bay, Australia tina_campbellA quick mention for our trips number one fan - young Daniel Havercroft who is monitoring our progress very keenly on his world wall map. Keep watching Dan (and helping Daddy find the countries that we are in - we know its not his strength), lots of love from Sue and Marcus.
Batemans Bay, Australia sueandmarcusSo today we were finally set to get on the road and start exploring Australia the way it was meant to be done, by car. No more long boring bus/train journeys, just us, the car and the freedom to drive wherever the hell we feel like. It's a great experience I tell you. So rather than head up the coast like all the other backpackers normally do we headed south to Melbourne, the long way. Decided we felt like seeing a few places along the way and had to visit Canberra as well. It's the ...
Pebbley Beach, Australia rbisset... had the windows down whichwas a bad idea with the mozzies around, and then in the middle of the night i awoke freezing cold, the weather had took a turn, with rain and wind, it was unreal ! 6am we woke up, and were driving by 6:20am. again we followed the coast, well kind of, it was supposed to be a coast road but it didnt real touch the coast, later we discovered that you have to turn off at various points and drive into the ...
Wolungong, Australia james24... dollars, so to be honest, our first thoughts as we drove into Shabby Shacks and saw the collection of ramshackle buildings was that the place had shut down many moons ago. Had Rene and I stumbled upon the place on our own, whilst looking for somewhere to stay, I'm certain we wouldn't have even driven in. Luckily though, we weren't on our own and we followed Jim to the bottom of the site where our cabins were located and caught our first view of the turquoise sea, through the ...
