Who would have thought. My mind immediately raced ahead and I thought what about all the merchandise out there already. I mean I don't exactly have long flowing locks of hair and don't have a beard. I've always had a romantic idea of New England - fisherman, lobstah, oysters and clams. I haven't had much opportunity to explore it before now, and work in Rhode Island afforded the perfect opportunity to wet my beak.

On my first visit to Newport in 1993 as best I can recall I
concentrated on the Cliff Walk, the Breakers, and one or two of the other great
mansions along Bellevue Avenue but saw little of downtown. This time I made it
      a point to ...

I continued along the Connecticut coast on minor roads as close to the beaches as possible on the busy Memorial Day start to the summer. The season was just beginning in the nice beach and harbor towns along the way. I made a short stop in Mystic but didn't go to Mystic Seaport Museum this time since it was already late in the day. Mystic was very crowded and touristy.

I wanted to stop in Stonington, a small village on a peninsula in Block Island Sound that made ...
