Took a day trip to Hangzhou today, about 75min on the high speed train. It's a very popular tourist destination, with a history of being a imperial getaway (and at some point, a capital). It's focal point is West Lake, and its lagoons and pagodas and temples. The area is also known for tea and silk. The place was pretty packed with tourists for a weekday. ... a waiter at a restaurant I ate at ended up being the tour guide for us when Benno and Kate came to Hangzhou.

Other observations
There are a few things that are starting to irritate me, such as crowded buses, and people pushing in front when I am lining up for something such as the checkout or ordering food, and the constant slagging I still find disgusting. It really annoys me, but the huge majority of people are nice and civil.
