... turf specials in numerous high-end restaurants, and a few places prepare magnificent meals that you will not soon forget. Pubs and bars line many of the streets, and if you enjoy good ale, Bar Harbor will definitely fit your style. The city is set up in a way that pleases the Maine locals and impresses tourists. There are a number of great historical spots, and you cannot visit Bar Harbor ...
Bar Harbor, Maine, United States katstravel... looked foreboding so we decided not to unload the bikes. However, we did set out on foot, crossed the river, and explored some of the paths and learned more about the history of Fredericton. We visited a museum and learned about an historical character named Alexander “Boss” Gibson, an industrialist in the 1800’s who instigated the formation of the community of Marysville - a factory town that provided employment ...
Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada wendyandbrian... the federal government who established the national park in the 1920"s.
The next day we awoke to sunny skies. We headed back up Cadillac Mtn for some better photos. My thrill for the day was seeing the Queen Victoria anchored in Bar Habour. She had made her inaugural voyage into Bar Harbour earlier that morning. The whole town came out to greet her! The Queen Victoria is the ship I did my world cruise on in 2008 so she is close to my ...
It was a beautiful sunny fall day that was pretty windy. I was glad that bought a lined wind breaker in Newport. Bar Harbor is a tender port. The ship was at anchor out among the lobster pot jungle. The ship is set with the azipods turned so that it acts as a large wind break. This keeps the chop to a minimum when getting on and off of the tender.
As usual, we enjoyed breakfast in the Lido before going ashore. I usually have muesli and raisin bread. If I am there ...
... thaw will have speeded up. Malc will take the opportunity of doing a few little jobs while we are here, Toad has already been treated to a car wash, new plugs, oil and filter and air filters, Bree will get new oil etc before we move on. For the time we are very happy to be back with the friends who helped make all this possible from the very beginning...so it must be all THEIR fault!! Suppose we will just have to make the best of it :)
Houlton, Maine, United States malbet... Acadia was beautiful and the town of Bar Harbor certainly has its charm. I super splurged and ate a $30 meal at Eden Restaurant, an all vegan, all organic, all locally owned and farmed produce buyer complete with olive butter and matza, bbq seitan, wasabi potatoes, and greens, and of course, almond chocolate mousse. Mmmmmmmmmm. I was gonna super uber splurg and get the vegan bloody mary but Rebecca promised blueberry beer at the bar that I ...
Bar Harbor, Colby and Farmington, Maine, United States shannonawu... t available yet so we went out to the family cabin in the middle of nowhere. Great stuff and then sat on the docks at the lake having some Alpine. Well, if you like golfing this is a good area. The rest is almost behind the times. I crossed the border this morning successfully. Yoo a fireman? Yup... Go ahead. Glad they didn't go through Shifty - it would have been a mess. I am making trails for Boston by nightfall - or somewhere near.
St Stevens, New Brunswick, Canada millarmotortour... the Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Micmac and Maliseet tribes (isn't that a mouthful!) who settled in Maine over the last 10,000 years. Check out the gorgeous Indian baskets in the gift shop, too; they're an exhibit in themselves. Leave the island behind and go west on Route 1, stopping halfway between Ellsworth and Bucksport at the Big Chicken Barn Books and Antiques, which has an amazing 21,600 ft of books and antiques. I love used bookstores, and this one is a gem. They have rare books ...
Coastal Rt 1, Maine, United States tumi1213... up and it could be a flash flood area. So I loaded up and started up the incline, but the dirt was clay and the rain had made it slippery so I slid back down. I backed up as far as I could and tried to build up some momentum which was difficult because at the base of the incline was a half foot depression in the ground that slowed me down. And as I tried a couple more times I started slippping back sideways twisting towards ...
