... the campsite, I get talking to a girl called Alisha who is from Australia and is a singer and musician but is currently travelling Iceland amongst other countries. She has been here a few weeks and has successfully got around the country by hitchhiking, and has had a great number of experiences and met a lot of people this way. After a long steep descent I finally get down to the bottom and then its another hour's walk to the lake and the campsite. Exhausted after a day of eight hours walking, I put up the tent, eat some dinner, and go for a stroll along the lake shore during the golden hour. The sun lights up the green ridges surrounding the lake beautifully.

The enthusiasm of these people really helped me get through a tough day. My ride ended in Meyers, California after riding 48 ...

A beautiful drive up into the mountains brought us to Lake Tahoe where we spent two days and one night.

        Lessons learned:

        1. On a hot, busy summer weekend, make sure you get to the lakefront parks early or you may not find a parking spot.

        2. Lake Tahoe would have made a great national park, rather than the haphazardly overdeveloped tourist site that it is now. Plan to visit the local parks, not the town of South Lake ...
