We got up early so that Karsten was at the FAL at 7:00 am. We had an excellent breakfast. He was back quicker than expected, so that Eric and I ended up only seeing the front of the Mardi Gras House. We checked out of the hotel and headed straight for the USS Alabama. I'm not that much into warships, but it is absolutely amazing to see the craftsmanship on the ship. The tour could have taken a couple ...

... hotel, I had to laugh. Hubby booked the same hotel we stayed at 18 years ago when we were on our way to New Orleans. Yet another set of quiet days. We headed in the right direction to skip construction traffic. Also, after some looking we managed to find a spot to stop for Southern Food (family here always goes for chains, this time I wanted to actually have some so we stopped BEFORE hand). Mary's Southern Kitchen, I think was the name. Very good, and very happy we stopped, also managed to get a lunch for the next day out of it (thanks to the amount of food).

Following the devastating fires of 1827 and 1839, this area was rebuilt in several architectural styles, including Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne and Victorian. Some of the homes have been taken over by businesses and some are under restoration and others are being well cared for by proud owners. It's a step back in time to walk through these neighborhoods.

Our drive from New Orleans to Destination was beset by rain. When we left New Orleans if hadn't quite started yet but by the time we got to the Louisiana border it was coming down strong. We stopped in Mobile to see the USS Alabama and the rain ponchos had to ...
