    ... a local grower who lived nearby. He kindly showed us his farm of Prunes & Walnuts. His soil is a silty loam and is between 6 and 12 metres deep. Pretty much ideal for tree crops. Plenty of problems with irrigation water this year as the drought is in full swing although Joe said he was OK but not sure about next year.     ... a table and chairs, and set up huge plastic bottles as targets. We then sat there for over an hour whilst I tried to fit in as much beer as possible to give me the confidence to shoot.

    In total I probably shot about four bullets.... I really don't like bangs. After moving the target much closer I managed to get one water bottle... woo! Stress!

    That evening I was taken to an American bar which is typically frequented after work. I literally felt like I had stepped into a film set it was so clichéd, the bartender was blond with fake boobs, the inside of the place was covered in pro-hunting posters, stickers and memorabilia and strong political messages, they were also some mounted animal heads around, a pool table and a built in ...

    ... the thread of the plot sometimes, as Peter says. It's tough being old whether you're a person or a dog.

    So we hit the road. 700 miles to Bryce and the thing we didn't realize ( or I didn't realize anyway) is that driving east at six am means you're heading on a beeline straight into the sun. Cross your fingers we don't ignite before we hit Nevada.
