... degrees and nothing but weather for concerns. The hours riding in eastern CO are as close to that sensation as I have ever experienced. A good time to let the mind wander, to appreciate the sheer magnitude of the space and then to see it in the rear view mirror. Now in Great Bend we are going to take a rest day while I change out a defective tire. The kind shop owner was willing to order it for me and then to make special arrangements to pick it up; nice ...

While this stop certainly will not be a highlight of our trip, ...

I spent the last week at Dwain and Chris's. After some discussion they allowed that I could veg for a while. In past years I have been startled by the bear, but he stayed away while I was there. They had a bad hale storm the week before and had one window shattered, the siding on three sides of the house shreded, and the trees almost denuded. ...

... Rocky Mountain National Park - we could see the smoke from the Colorado Springs fire. A very large fire that has now claimed at least 60 homes. Colorado officials have also evacuated a nearby prison just in case.

We are now in Great Bend, KS. Tomorrow we are dropping the trailer at Lake Thunderbird State Park. Then we will tour Moore & Norman where a recent tornado ripped through the town and claimed several lives including children and staff from an elementary ...
