    ... and conversations with about 10 working residents of the town. Some worked the oilfields, others ranched, one was UPS. Lots of fun while we waited out a fast-appearing thunderstorm. Learned a lot about the working life of Ness from these self -described "lifers". One factoid is that the landowner of a well site gets 12% of the well production for use of the land.No one locally is objecting to the oilfields here by their report.     We had thunder storms during the night, but the day started nicely with no wind and a cool morning air left over from the storm.     ... very educational! From there it took us 3 state parks before we found one with good campsites and a nice view.     We went to Cripple Creek for diner, gambling, and a cabaret which spoofed lake wobegonn in a western setting. I spent an extra day as the weather was unsettled to the east.
    I am now in mid-southern Kansas.

    ... Rocky Mountain National Park - we could see the smoke from the Colorado Springs fire. A very large fire that has now claimed at least 60 homes. Colorado officials have also evacuated a nearby prison just in case.
