After breakfast and bike riding around the campground loop, we drove into Hannibal, the town where Samuel Langhorn Clemens (Mark Twain) spent his childhood years. We ate at the Mark Twain diner (where the kids enjoyed homemade root beer!), then walked up 244 stairs to see a lighthouse perched on the side of a hill. It was a lovely climb and offered views of the Mississippi River (it really is MUDDY!!) and Hannibal.

Next, we visited Mark Twain's ...

We packed up, attached the CR-V, and hit the road. We headed northwest to Missouri. We stopped in St. Louis for a few hours. ("Wolf Stalker" in Yellowstone NP) Annie journaled a little bit before bed while Rees researched our next stop. Where will we be tomorrow?? Who knows?

... us via the highway, we decided to take a small road that runs parallel to the Mississippi River called the Great River Road. Unfortunately the Great River road wasn't so great; there were a few parts when we saw the Mississippi, otherwise we just saw corn fields and followed train tracks the whole way. We were on the Missouri side and there is also a Great River Road on the Illinois side, so maybe that one is more scenic? ...

Stopping for the night in Columbia Missouri after taking a picture of Beetle Bailey. I remember reading Beetle Bailey in the funny pages every day. We had a great day taking the back roads instead of I-70. Saw tons of barns and great houses along the ...
