... we hot footed it back to the hostel for a change into suitable gear. An hour later we were starting our marine research expedition. Well, that's how it felt to us! ... tea, you want peppermint tea?", as if I should be drinking the Empress tea. I said "yes please", so he went and got me some peppermint tea but wasn't very happy about it. This became a joke between Karen and I the whole trip.

... Van is quite hilly (like Melb) as opposed Toronto which was relatively flat. I hear a commotion behind me - this homeless guy is careering down the road in amongst the traffic with his shopping trolley acting as the engine and the wheeling bin at the back as the caboose and his rear foot being the break. Amazingly he made it down the hill in one piece and just wandered off on his mission.
