Corner Great Western Highway & Oberon Road Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, 2795
... whole way. After that I ignored the SN as she tried for 20 miles to get me to do a youeey. I was half expecting a bloke’s voice to chime in with – "ahh mate – what were you doing going down there?” I headed back for Oberon and ignored all requests to make a left onto the gravel roads presented. At the end of the road I rejoined the road to the caves. I was 2 miles from my original U-turn and 3 hours of bush adventure had passed.
Hahahahaha ...
... We toured The Bathurst track and i got to see all the pit garages, and the V8 Supercars racing around the track. I had never been to a race of this magnitude and was thoroughly impressed and deafened by the roaring engines of these modified cars covered in sponsors stickers anywhere space was available. Frank and John took me around for me to meet the managers that I would be working with for the next few days. Luckily Paul Valenti had told all of them of my arrival. Paul ...
Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia bong808... is always the smart**** dude traveling on his own with three Swedish blondes in a Kombi van. Now perhaps he could be directed via the Hay Plains especially to see The Shearers Hall of Fame!!!
Now I started this entry just to say that once again we are set up in our spot at Bathurst (a much enlarged area this year, due to the generosity of the line markers!) and we really are looking forward to a few days of vegging out before it all starts.
... site. My hostel is located slightly off the beaten track next to a grocery shop called the Flying Fox. It's a wonderfully cosy little hostel that has a living area with a roaring fire. Everyone here is very welcoming and the rooms are certainly nicer than the hostel in Sydney. The walls are decorated with aboriginal art and Indian batiks and it feels more like a big home than a hostel. For the price I'm paying it ...
Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia apoc100... A little paradise on earth. What a good decision that was to go there for a couple of days and not only for a daytrip from Sydney. It wouldn't have been the same. From Sydney I took the train to Katoomba, the village in which I had booked my very first hostel ever, The Flying Fox. It turned out to be the perfect choice. I turned up at the same time as the English Philippa, we dropped our stuff in the rooms (the room was a bit of a chock when I saw it for the first time, what ...
Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia saskiab... on the reputedly steepest funicular in the world. The 2 kilometre walk around the boardwalks through the forest floor is spectacular but comfortably shaded even in the soaring temperatures of the day. Then it's back up to the top on the Cableway and the searing heat of the café. The only thing to do in this heat is go to a cave, so off we went to Jenolan Caves, stopping for lunch at a typical hotel (all the pubs are called hotel in this country) in Blackheath ...
Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia jackandjill... through Leura, the next town along, it took us down to Gordon falls . The lookout there is amazing, and the sun was shining all over the blue mountains and the valley beneath us. It is 300m to the floor of the valley too and the lookout leans out over this. The bus was coming back 1 hour after it dropped us off to continue a new loop, and I quite fancied the walk to the next stop. It was supposed to take an ...

What do I need to do before I go? Before I head off on this great opportunity, in addition to finishing the HSC, as a part of my commitment to SPW I will be fundraising $10 000 to make sure these valuable programs are able to continue. I have already held a "Go Red ...

The line was then abandoned until in the 1970's local enthusiasts reopened the line, complete with steam engines and it now runs as a major attraction, 'The Lithgow Zig Zag Railway". It's a narrower gauge (42") as opposed to the standard (56") track. We arrived early and sat in the sunshine until the train pulled in. The intriguing trip lasted an hour and a half and ...
Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia harryandnorah... of the flag pole at Lambert's Centre), took some pictures and drove back to the Hume Highway. I headed up to Cowra on the Lachlan Valley Highway and stopped for coffee at the pleasant catholic town of Cowroora. Towards Bathurst the scenery reminded me again of Devon. Very green pastoral country with rolling hills. In town I soon found the Commercial Hotel. The owner, Bev introduced me to Annabel, on her first night working the bar, and showed me to a very ...
