The Favourite Part of This Trip

A travel blog entry by 9lives on Oct 25, 2014

... had lots of expenses ahead of us.

We managed to cross into Tennessee for lunch and stopped at Jellico for fuel and lunch. Before this trip I was unaware that diesel costs more than gasoline in the States. A salad at Wendy's did the trick for lunch and then we drove through the beautiful fall colors of the mountains. There are also lots of Sycamore trees alongside the highway. Their leaves look somewhat like Maple leaves but their ...

On the Road Again

A travel blog entry by jblackert on Jun 30, 2014

... I had plenty of time to observe the 14,000 different license plate designs as each state resident never presented a duplicate. I also noticed the locals tend to speed up in construction zones although the signs warn of a double fine for perpetrators. Part of me believes this is a state plot to lure tourists into a trap. Had a dynamite lunch in a new restaurant called Fortify and then headed south. Drove through the pour in rain and arrived at the KOA. Had "lovely" take-out from Wendy's and turned in early. Had ...

Happy Third Birthday Michael!

A travel blog entry by 9lives on Mar 05, 2014

We had a little of everything today - cold, warmth, fog, hoar frost, snow, sun - but no rain! We left Dayton around 7:30 and enjoyed the wide, expansive highway down to Cincinnati since it was sunny and dry. Made it through Cinci during morning rush hour but it was not as bad as the last time when there was an accident on I75 and we had to find our way around it in the evening rush hour. Paid appropriate tribute to the St. Bernard Soap Co., a.k.a. ...

"Mommy, what's a Sequester??"

A travel blog entry by nreonas on Mar 05, 2013

... the Sequester cuts, parks will be forced to hire fewer seasonal employees. This will result in fewer services for guests at the parks, to include reduced operating hours, fewer interpretive programs, and less regular maintenance and cleaning. Certain areas would also have to be closed.
Let's take as an example two of the parks I am planning on visiting next month, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Yellowstone has to trim about ...
