... the owner of the plantation where she lived and worked demanded she withdraw her registration to vote—which she refused to do. She was forced to leave the plantation. According to The New York Times, she said "They kicked me off the plantation, they set me free. It's the best thing that could happen. Now I can work for my people."

... his way to Memphis and ultimate success, becoming to the Blues what Louis Armstrong was to Jazz. After two or three hours in the museum we had a beer (well I did) in the Blue Biscuit bar across the road from the museum. There is not much else to say about Indianola, so we set off for our next stop on the Blues Highway, Clarkesdale, Mississippi. ... we were taking pictures like crazy. Also, I found the best bargain ever here! At Lakeside Sports, which is attached to a Chevron, adjacent to a laundromat on a small parking lot - $50 dollar dress made with that special material that supposedly keeps one cool for $5 bucks!!!! Loven it! So happy they have sale racks in Mississippi too :)

Until the next stop.....off to McDonalds now. Stay ...

Now you may not know but Parchman is the home of the Mississippi State Penitentiary and Blues enthusiasts will be familiar with the song" Parchman Farm" which laments being banged up in this very facility.
