A wonderful thing about living in a warmer climate, like the one in California, is that it is always "festival season". On any given day, on any given weekend, there is a wealth of activities, most often free, to keep you occupied. Lesley and James have this down to an art - a quick search on the right websites reveals concerts in the park, farmer's markets, days dedicated to any number of things, and then ...

Today was a nice relax day, meaning we had nowhere pressing to go, nowhere to be, just a long day stretching out in front of us, full of the possibility of possibilities. A little chilling on the balcony in the morning sun, a cup of coffee and a little look into our evening's plans, and Lesley and I packed up our beach gear and headed down the coast for another day of exploration.

What a wonderful sleep in a big, cushy hotel bed! Don't get me wrong - I've been lucky that ALL my sleeps thus far into the trip have be very comfortable and relaxing, but man oh man, there's something to be said about a big, cushy hotel bed! On the ferry we had another camera crisis when Jonathan realised he had left the memory card in his computer back at the RV. On docking at Pier 1 Emma, Megan and Ben went off to get coffee and breakfast on the move whilst Jonathan went off to find an electrical store. We all met up at Pier 33 for our tour to Alcatraz at 10am all fed and now with a functioning camera.

        The crossing itself only ...

... Drinks were like $7.50 but that was sailor jerry and they make them as strong if not stronger than a double shot. Once done at the bar I went back to my new friends after party.

Given it was only 3 blocks away I walked back to my place at about 2.30am knowing I had to get up before 6 a.m to get same day tickets for Alcatraz.
