Fijian Entertainment

We booked a tour today to a resort island, (and yes, all of Fiji is composed of resort islands) but this one was Robinson Crusoe Island. It lies only a few hundred meters offshore but you get picked up by coach, taken to a small jetty on a river then downriver to the mouth and across the small bit of ocean to the island. We've been on these kinds of tours before and almost always they have been hokey, contrived, ridiculous, and a waste of money. And yet we still k...

I'm not a Woose anymore

I'm not a Woose anymore!

HA! We went diving today and had great success in getting into the water and having a good dive. WHEW! What a relief. For two days I stewed on whether I was getting too chicken to dive anymore and I came up with the Iceland experience and how I didn’t like the diving in the dry suit and in a fissure/crevasse. Once I was over the side and in the water today, it was just as good as always and I enjoyed my dive quite a lot. I think there was the potential t...

One Month more - The Stats

One Month More – The Stats

Today is November 25. I will be back in Toronto and at the end of my journey in one month, December 25. It hardly seems like I have been traveling for 3 months already and have done ¾ of the trip. I feel a little forlorn that I am already looking at the end looming up in front of me. I do wish I could have gone a longer period of time and had more stops but I am very thankful that I have done this much and have had the opportunity to do this. I hope to...

Sad and fond farewells

Dinner last night was our last night here at Bederra Beach and in Fiji. After we finished eating, the "band" came over to seranade us. Everything night, three men sit on the floor in the lobby and sing wonderful Fijian music and harmonize beautifully. For our last night, they came and sang us a farewell song. Staying here at Bederra has been great. The staff are all ...

Feel good Fiji - A dangerous Paradise

... a lot of mangroves where the water is very shallow, as we were going over we could see loads of them on the bottom of the seabed, but they weren’t as big as the ones we saw on the island, probably 2foot but still wanted to give them a wide birth, anyway the tide must have been heading out because before we knew it we were marooned on the bottom and could not paddle anywhere! So we know either had to wait for the tide to come back in which was not an option or get out and drag our ...

Bula!!!!!!! (from Fiji)

... We will leave you to decide!

Here we spent our time relaxing in a hammock, reading yet another 4 books and escaping the rain. We made jewellery with the locals by weaving vine leaves and got chatting to more people from all over the world! At Waya Lailai we were treated to traditional Fijian dances, fire dances and the friendliest islanders we had yet encountered. It was however strange when we saw the 10 foot satelite dish beaming Sky Sports into the bar!

The Camper Crash and other exciting adventures.

... use up. The next morning we went for a nice walk up Mount Iron, with me and Rob finishing a good 20 minutes before Ben did, being the athletes that we are. Once again the views were spectacular. We then headed to Wanaka's alternative tourist attraction; Puzzling World. This was a collection of strange exhibits which are meant to confuse you. This includes a room which is at such an angle that a ball looks like it's rolling up hill, when in fact it is going down hill ...

Bula!

... when it became too hot to slide into the lukewarm, clear and still waters....like a big swimming pool! The resort we stayed at was right beside a little village, with a school right outside our room. It was lovely in the evenings when there was a church service, you could hear the beautiful singing of the Fiji people while sitting in the hammock outside our room. So when we weren't simply chilling by the sea, we actually did use up some ...

A little bit (a lot of bit) of paradise!!!

... also donated a few bucks which helped out conscious also). We saw some people playing a human size chess game...thought that was cool. J Then, we shopped for souvenirs and ate dinner and went to our hotel. So, if you're ever in New Zealand...you can afford to miss Christchurch. Although, to be fair, we figured part of our lack of enthusiasm of Christchurch is because we were ready for Fiji ...To relax and do nothing for 7 days! We flew out of ...
