    ... way on foot to Congress Hall.
    Garry & Jackie had been down earlier in the day and placed our picnic chairs on the Congress lawn to 'save' our place for the fireworks display. It was like festival time with the Island population swelling fro 4,000 to 45,000 for the celebration weekend.     ... was horrific. The traffic was congested and we altered our route to get off route 30. Luckily we had our audio book and learned more about the War of 1812.

    ... and learned about the Coast Guard festival coming up in a few weekends (just missed it!). It was wonderful to spend time catching up with Heather, while the waves crashed along the shore. The tall grasses and sand dunes are just like Cape Cod - it's easy to understand what drew them to this small Victorian town.

    After much deliberation, we settled on the Blue Pig Tavern at Congress Hall for a delicious dinner in a cozy setting (see picture below).

    The hike wasn't very long - about 2.6 miles, but the conditions did make it more challenging than it would be the rest of the year.     This was a fantastic place! This campground was right next to the Indian River Inlet. Next to the campground was the Indian River Bridge. This is one of the most beautiful bridges I have ever seen. Ever day we used to walk to the beach which was just a short walk from our camp site. We explored this area for two weeks. ...
