      ... a Coastal Redwood and a Douglas Fir (the former has spongey bark and bottle-brush-shaped needle clusters, while the latter has hard bark and a flat needle arrangement). We made home-made postcards in the visitor's center. (What a great idea! Just illustrate a piece of card stock.)

      After that, we drove south again, and visited Natural Bridges State Park, a little beach with a pretty stone arch in the shallows.

      ... after lunch. We called Josh and Wanda and they were out doing errands and said they would stop by about 3:00. We got all settled in and waited and when they arrived, Lilly burst from the car yelling, "Gramma! Papa!" with big hugs all around – couldn't have been better.
