... up at a free dock at Fishy Fishy Seafood and had lunch. Finished eating and sat in the boat, still socked in. A patch of blue showed up and I thought the fog was finally clearing. Wrong! We crept out of Southport with maybe 50 ft viz at dead low tide that was just starting to reverse. ... lot of trailer parks and trying to find a campground has been difficult because a lot of them turn out to be trailer parks. The campground we went to in Wilmington looked good online but it turned out to be a little bit creepy. Good news is the price was great and there were a lot of friendly cats and dogs to pet. Bad news is the place gave me the heebie-jeebies. We got through the night no problem and really I’m sure everything was fine but we packed it up the next morning ...
... two hour trip down the Cape Fear River, with wind opposing tide, was lumpy but manageable and making the turn into Southport was a welcome difference from the rough ride down the River.

... there you can tour, but we didn't. I think the best part of Wilmington was the old houses, reminded me a little of Charleston, SC. I just love that character and charm!
During our stay we ate at the following places: Shuckin Shack (not a great place to take kids) it's all fresh seafood, literally right off the boat, hence the name Shuckin. Island Hots (kid friendly) was a great lunch place. They mostly have hotdogs, with fries, ...
