      Near Harbor Springs we saw some mansions with horse paddocks. Had lunch overlooking the marina and looking back to some lovely houses. Harbor Springs is obviously a very wealthy area and a tourist place. We tried to use the public restrooms at the beach but they were locked as the beach was closed. marina was far more accommodating and even had hot water ...

      ... route south and first stop was Port Iroquois Light Station. We were able to walk to the top of the tower. Overcast day and view over Lake Superior was a little affected but still worth the walk up the 76 steps. Had passed lots of bike riders along the way and came across their support vehicles at the Light Station. Food and drinks were waiting for them. It was an organised bike holiday.

      ... a fabulous day on island. Mackinac is an old school tourist town where no cars are allowed and the only mode of transportation is horse and buggy or bicycle. We borrowed the owner's bikes and made the 8 mile loop around the coast line with coffee in hand. We sat on the waterfront for a long lazy lunch, walked up into the heart of the island through the forest to view the amazing arch rock formations and then enjoyed a waterside cocktail hour. ...
