... one piece. We organized to have the brakes fixed the next day and once we got the car back we did lots of exploring down the coast, calling in at all the little beaches and bays all the way to Moruya. The one advantage in having the car out of action for two days was that we all got lots of opportunity to explore Batemans Bay on foot. We walked to the shops in both directions and...well, we walked to the shops in both directions.
Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia macphails... Like all my other hostels I have stayed at so far I met some really nice people and on one occasion I met a guy from Iran who lives in London. We decided to check out the local pub in the town and met some really strange people but it was a good laugh. Batemans Bay is very nice place and had a good chance to relax before a hectic time in Sydney
Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia andy10265Batemans Bay On the way to Batemans Bay I stopped in at Kiama. A beautiful little town well known for its lighthouse and blow holes. The coffee shop on the point is also terrific and had the best lemon meringue pie! I stayed a couple of nights at the Batemans Bay YHA which was part of the local caravan park. It was a pleasant little spot and not busy which was quite a contrast from Sydney. Birds chirped happily in the trees surrounding ...
Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia marcia_octoman... we had been here some days without seeing even one. Since the day had cooled - it was about 4:30 - we walked down to a gully and saw them grazing. We watched for some time and took many little movies. I now believe. They do exist. We have also seen flocks of pelicans - BIG birds - and they sit on the light posts with their webbed feet. We have also seen cockatoos. Altogether too RIGHT!!
Batemans Bay, Australia christinagary... mental, buoyed up on a combination of soft drinks, sugar, and holidays! It was most interested in the "Contemporary Australia" exhibition which details Australia since 1900. I had a cursory glance round the rest of the musuem but with the pre-pubscent screams ringing in my ears I didn't loiter for too long. My final stop was the Telsta Tour, which is basically the Canberra equvalent of the BT Tower. Great view of the City, ugly building. Not much more to say really! I ...
Bateman's Bay, Australia mariborkev... travelled the country six times. They still have much to see for the first time. Last night we stayed at a National Park - Depot Beach. It has a beautiful forest - it is greener here - as well as a crashing beach. We have contacted our Australian second cousins. Kit Ayer lives in Sydney and we have agreed to meet when we settle in a camp.
Depot Beach, Australia duchesne... fire. Scrunching up a brochure and some leaflets we'd picked up. It was pretty windy but, bless him, he did try, and try, and try. I think some of the paper caught light but just smoked a little and did nothing to the wood on top. Now, if you can imagine the scene - State park, not too many people around, us crouched over our fire box with some matches trying to start a fire and the daylight starting to fade, when from over the wall pops a man. "You got it started yet ...
Shell Harbour, Australia lisartw... a big and drunken fairwell to sydney, so drunken infact that when we got back to our room i actually fell straight of the top bunk, scarping my back rather ungracefully as i fell with a thud to the ground and man o man that hurt the next day... oops! So, with our hangovers we headed to the travellers autobahn to get what was to be our home for the next 10 days our brand new spanking campervan! We waited a fair while and then got the home on 4 wheels and as the guy was ...
Leaving Sydney, Australia halfeatenapple... we then had to head back to the station, although we did squeeze in some christmas shopping and another quick scoot around the QVB to make sure I hadn't missed any shoe shops. that evening Ruth and Chris had ordered pizza and with our exemplary(sp?) timing we arrived just as the pizza did, and so i found myself sat on the sofa, a glass of wine thrust into my hand and pizza in front of me. What a way to end a day ;-)
Shell Cove, Australia bakes... the boys cycled, to the local corner shop for a few provisions, before we drove to a nearby beach, renowned for its dcent surf. I took a different path down to the beach and unfortunately missed the black cockatoo the others saw. The surf was up and the long beach pretty much deserted. Jim and I wasted no time grabbing a boogie board and getting wet. The waves were really powerful and it was a struggle making our way out to where they were breaking. I caught one, it thrust me ...
