... One other interesting tidbit from the Fort Morgan museum: there was a display of menus from holidays at the fort, when they tried to built the soldiers' morale. On the July 4 menu for 1912, the beverages on offer were: lemonade, iced tea, and Budweiser. Who knew?

We also saw the USS Drum SS 228 submarine today. It is on the same site as the USS Alabama and it is cool to get on a sub. The USS Drum SS 228 sank 15 Japanese ships during it's service. The sub is 311 ft long, 27 feet wide and could stay submerged for 24 hours at 2 knots. It had a crew of 72 men and carried 94,400 gallons of diesel. Boy, I could use some of that fuel on this ...
We had a leisurely day visiting the town of Fairhope. Had lunch on the pier and just enjoyed the scenery. You can see Mobile from the pier and tomorrow will take us to see the USS Alabama. Here are some pictures of the pier area and a castle that a resident built many years ...
