Country Livin'

... regular at the pub. We also drove past local vineyards and fields with onion seed growing. It was nice to get out of the town and see some of the countryside. It was also nice to partake in a recreational activity that did not include killing things. I don't know what it is about Australians and their need to kill animals, but it seems to be a big part of what they do out here. My fishing trip has thankfully been put on hold for now ...

Lovely cool pool in Hay's heat

Just a quick stop over in Hay for the night. Hay seems to be quite a farming town with alot of sheep shearing.
It was a very hot day in Hay so it was a great relief to see a nice clean cool pool in Hay Caravan Park. We had a quick dip before having a ...

Schooners, stubbies and outback survival

... after asking me a host of questions on where I'm from they then usually launch into an explanation of how they are related to most of the other drinkers.
The other bar staff are also all really friendly, and against my better vegetarian judgment I have agreed to go fishing on the near by River Murray with one of the barmaids called Rochelle. I plan to do more sunbathing than fishing but something tells me it's not going to be the kind of boat you can get your towel out on!

Back in Kagaroo Flat

Had a nice cool ride up to Bendigo this morning. Stopped in Kyneton for morning tea, arriving in Kangaroo Flat (a Bendigo suburb) about noon.

Went out for a drive around the area to see where the recent bushfires had made their marks. Quite extensive damage around here, but this upcoming fire season may be even worse. Did my best to help, bring in 25-30mm of ...

Spring has sprung...

... take as many photos as possible but I've had to edit and select only a few for this as the old saying "what happens on the hen weekend stays on the hen weekend" definitely came into play haha.

I think Kristy and I were the only ones who placed a bet the entire time we were there and the one bet we did place we won so we were really quite chuffed with that selection. The rest of the day was spent drinking, playing games and getting the banter going with anyone who ...

Paddlesteaming on

Set off this morning to go on the paddesteamers. We all had an enjoyable time and then pushed the excitement levels to the next step and went on a horse and carriage ride. Was nice to step back in time but was gald to leave it all behind after going to the penny parlour (although the boys seemed to enjoy it) and the old 3 stooges movies - sorry for those that are fans but they don't do ...

Don't want to say goodbye

The boys didn't want to say goodbye to Sam as he went to off to school as we don't know when it will be next until we see him (or the rest of the family) again. Very sad....aawww! Not long after we left Melbourne behind and headed towards Echuca (near the Murray River). It's not really on the way home but Jeremy wanted to go to see the Paddlesteamers. Got in not long after ...

Old Mates and Flying Boats

Today was another nice sunny day, so we headed off for Kerang - about 60km from here down the Murray Valley Highway. When we arrived we found the pink shop. You see, the owner is a softball umpiring mate of mine - a lovely, in fact, quite incredible lady whom I met some few years back through softball. She and her husband own a dairy farm near Cohuna - she gets up each morning around 5am, helps milk the cows - 200 at present, down from the usual 500 ...

Berrigan Racing

... asked for volunteers to get in the empty choppers down to Apollo Bay and drive the cars back up, how could Ben refuse? Not only this but we were heading about 500Km north for the weekend and Ben asked if I could help him with the driving, how could I refuse? I sat at the garage for a while, and then saw my first Chrysler, just the one at the garage and then it was off. A few minutes later another arrived, then another, and another, before long the garage was full of ...
