    We go this room, with AAA, for $90 and its once of the nicer hotels with a breakfast.

    ... that were used during construction of the railroad. This 35 mile stretch of road is very much as it was in 1926. Some of the scenery is probably the same as when only the Indians inhabited the area. However, when the freeways were completed (I-15 and I -40), this once busy highway was bypassed and lots of businesses went bust.

    ... a marina and boat pens in a little man made lagoon! The temperature outside had reached 41 degrees, so it was a very quick photo stop and then back into the Dodge in the air-con! We decided to give the next section of the route a miss and hit I40W instead and made into Barstow by mid afternoon - booking straight into motel well away from the huge rail yards in the town.     ... They did not eat, just danced, bought T-shirts, took lots of pictures and left.. There are so many French that visit and don't eat, we were thanked for being American and eating at the cafe. I guess neither of which happens very often here.....

    There might be a reason people don't eat here. Some time ask Newt about his burger.

    Found the worst part of 66 and had to resort to Rt 40. At 110 degrees we arrived in Needles,California for the night. ...
