... It wasn’t too hot, bath temperature, and we all got in, we were the only ones in there and the stars were absolutely amazing! It was a genuine spot and reasonably well known so we were lucky to have it to ourselves. I think there was around 3 or 4 shooting stars while we were sat there with a beer! Headed out at 9:15 am and fueled up at a nearby Shell station - 23.894 gals. @ $4.159/gal. totaling $99.00. Drove by Crowley Lake with a back drop of snow capped mountains. The Elevation rose from 4120' to 7000' within 15 minutes of driving. By 10:00 am we were driving in snow. The snow continued when we reached 8036' altitude at Deadman's Summit. We continued our journey through Lee Vining town with a population of 300 and ...

I have seen the pictures in books more than once over the years and now I've seen them firsthand. My photos will not do them justice as is often the case. Some howling and yapping started as we approached the shore -- coyotes we suspect.

... vehicles) that I'm convinced are looking on in amusement at our (not subtlety coloured and entirely inappropriate) car creeping along at 5mph. In the end I gave up, did a u-turn, and shamefully retreated back to town on the main road, oh well! In the evening we ate at a place Pete had read about called the Texas Smoke House, it was rough and ready but super tasty. Then we hit the Whiskey Creek saloon for a beer. Good beer, good food, good views, great day. ...
