We are back in the cooler coastal areas I love so much! The past few days have been in a place called Gold Beach at a resort called Turtle Rock. You will see from the pictures why they call it turtle rock. Mom is back to exercising and I'm back to short beach walks and dad is treasure hunting at the local 2nd hand stores. The decadence of this RV campsite is the attached deck with ...

... sound of the waves pulling back into the ocean, dragging the small beach rocks back with them. So different from the east coast. It's a roaring, crashing, thundering tide. We've been told by many that the weather we've been having is most unusual for this time of year. Usually the rains have set in by now and it doesn't let up all through the winter. We've had gloriously sunny days, some cloudy days, some heavy fog, but not rain. So we ...

... was good to see Andrew feeling well enough to expend some energy. He seemed to be having a good time doing it, although he'd never admit it. We drove whenever the kids were napping. We drove through the beaches south if Beachside SP and then away from the beach several times usually to meet a bridge. We stopped at a cove just north of the Sea Lion Caves, a seaside cave in which several dozen sea lions have taken up residence. Sea lions, unlike seals, ...

... The kids eventually fall asleep, and we come to the Trees of Mystery! There is a massive statue here of Paul Bunyan and his blue ox Babe. Every now and then, it will announce something over a loudspeaker. The only reason I know of this story, is from the Simpsons. There is quite a tourist attraction here – you can walk through the trees, and there is "Sky Trail" (a cable car through the trees). But the kids are still asleep, and we want to ...

... we drove in, we saw a small pond with swans in it, but when we drove out the fog was too thick to see them.

We take the scenic beach loop, but it is really too foggy to see anything. The fog clears by the time we reach Devils Kitchen.

Our next stop is Wild Safari and then Cape Blanco Lighthouse, and then Gold Beach where we get tickets to ride the Jet Boat up the Rogue River tomorrow.
