The Locks consist of two canals and four locks that allow vessels of many types/sizes to safely traverse the 21-foot drop in elevation of the St. Mary’s River between Lake Superior and Lakes Michigan and Huron. I arrived in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario around 7pm, as hoped. I was ready to stop, the pets were ready to stop, and the gas tank was down to a quarter. I realized that I could cross now, and save money on both the gas AND the hotel prices over on the US side... and so...
