We left our place in Auckland this a.m. in a light drizzle as we boarded the LINK bus to where we caught the Airexpress bus to the airport. First time for us taking a domestic flight in another country (outside the US). Almost everything was self-check. It's been hard not to nap on the bus as each new road turn produces another breathtaking view. The whole island is just remarkable. After the detox required on the ferry over, we traveled sailed through the cool Marlborough Sounds. It was amazing at the time but acted as just a drop in the ocean before the stunning South Island. We hopped on our ...

... was a little more clear to see. That evening in the same camping spot, just after Louise managed to spill half a carton of warm milk under our bedding, we were moved along by a DOC (Department of Conservation) worker so we headed back up the road and spent the night in a lay-by next to the lake.

Waking up to Mt Cook reflected in Lake Pukaki was a perfect start to the morning and a brunch stop-off for ice cream and some free wifi made the drive ...
