We got up at 7:50am this morning to prepare for our busy tour day. An hour later we were heading out the Laing's door to meet Hasslefree tours outside a nearby hotel. Our driver, Steve, picked us up in a four-wheel drive van, and we headed out of town towards Methven. Along the way, Steve talked to us about the towns and farms we passed through, imparting his own past experiences with the region. We were also able to watch some behind-the-scenes Lord of the Rings featurettes ...

... sans-serif; line-height: normal;">On the way to the final stop Lake Tekapo we stopped at Lake Pukaki which is the most turquoise lake I've ever seen with the joke being every year they drain the lake to paint the bottom blue! Arriving at Tekapo out hostel was situated 50m from the lake. Spending one full day there I walked up mount John with a room mate before following the peninsula track completing the 5hr walk with stunning views of the lake and mountains.

A small city, a little unloved and run down in bits. Lots of hills. Lots of hills! Steepest street in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. It is a university town more than a tourist trap so everything was a little bit cheaper than the rest of New Zealand.

Surprisingly it has the most awesome museum and a pretty nice art gallery for a city this size. ...

We flew into Wellington and found our way to the rented room that Diana, my travel partner, had rented months before. This old home turned B'n'B used to be a polish embassy and sat on top of the famous Wellington cable car. The backyard overlooked the whole city and harbour... perfect view for morning breakfasts! We settled in then took the cable car down to tour the city. Wellington, not unlike other cities, is just another city once you've seen the sites and ...

We have arrived on a bright sunny day. Only 3-4 hours flight from Sydney but 2 extra hour difference from Europe. I find it difficult to get used to such a gap. Sometimes it's fine then one night I just know I won't sleep.
After checking in at the hotel we decided to have a little walk 'in the center'. We then realised that most buildings were shut, i.e. No access allowed, blocked off for safety reason in case it all collapses. Shopping malls, ...
