We basically spent Tuesday getting settled into our "home away home". As I mentioned, this cabin is really awesome compared to the others we've rented up on the rim. The downstairs living room has a bar, pool table, air hockey, Wii with big screen TV and a Deer Hunter video game machine. ... was filled with cholla, ocotillo and blooming Saguaro cactus, changes into high desert with the big round scrub bushes before you hit Payson, AZ and are surrounded by lots of tall pine trees. We always wait till we get to the turn off for Woods Canyon Lake on the 260 to check the outside temps. It was actually a mild 95 degrees when we left Phoenix and less than three hours later it was a wonderful 81 degrees! Yes! ...

From Santa Fe, it's a 730 mile ride to my La Quinta home – and nearly twice as far for Ray to ride to his home in Farragut, Tennessee. It'll take me three leisurely days. Much cooler today, in the mid 80's and overcast
It only sprinkled when I was filling up the car.
Salt River Canyon is spectacular but requires driver concentration. I am glad it was a short day.
