Yesterday we departed Utica, IL about 9:30. The GPS stated Springfield area ETA as 12:45. We had to slow our drive as most places you can't check in until after 1. Well as it turned out we had no problem going slower since IL is working on their roads big time! One construction area was one lane for about a mile and they were only working on about 200 feet right in the middle. Oh well guess you can't figure out government of any kind.

Turns out the river gets a little confused about which way to the Gulf of Mexico, so it turns around and heads north for a couple miles right where I crossed. Fun! ... parks are absolutely wonderful. They usually occur where they have built a dam or reservoir. These parks are very well laid out and have most of the creature comforts required. This park is called Redman Creek Campground and is located on Wappapello Lake. Our site has full hookups and is half the price of a KOA. We have a fire pit with built in BBQ. It is nice to hear nothing but the birds for a change. We set up; put on the coffee and relax.

... get a Mark Twain magnet and some books. It was very small town, I had to show the old man how to use the credit card reader...it took 15 minutes to spend 11 bucks, lol! We decided that we absolutely could not bypass Saint Louis and it's infamous gateway arch...boy were we surprised when we got a look at the city itself. If it wasn't under construction it was run down, burned out, or covered in graffiti. Jeff says, probably still ...

... worn my mud boots because the sky was black and the wind was picking up. 5 minutes later, as gates were about to open, the skies opened instead and Elisa and I opted to let everyone into the tent to get out of the storm. As quickly as it started, the black clouds moved away and we were all soaked but happy to see sunshine again.

The crowds were SO much fun today…very appreciative and supportive of the performances which is always so wonderful to hear and ...
