      ... on an older Ford F350 I bought from The Rev. Polly Anderson... June of 2008. The town has a second park and sports complex which houses a campground for $15.00 a night... I think it was $10.00 in '08. We stopped here for nostalgia's sake. As you can see, the porch swing now has a "porch"... and still holds the world's record as far as anyone can tell... including the Guiness Book of World ...

      ... to the cubs. The mother bear charged him twice as he backed off and realized his mistake. He came out unscathed and hopefully at least has a cool video. We parted ways after about an hour. He was trying to leave Kansas by tonight, and I had about 15 miles till my camp. I learned that he was taking almost the exact same route as me up to Toronto, where he'll be working for a while.       Onwards and eastwards my next stop was Abilene, a small historic town with a number of claims to fame. Abilene was the terminus of the Chisholm Trail on which cattle were driven north from Texas to the railroad in Abilene in the late 1860s and early 1870s to be shipped to Chicago. An estimated 5 million head of cattle reached Abilene over several years, and the large number of cowboys at the end of the trail made Abilene one of the wildest towns in the West for a few years.
