We woke up rather late and after a light breakfast, we got caught up on laundry etc and started off towards our next destination, panguitch, Utah. This was a drive of approximately six hours, from California to Utah, with a brief time in Nevada. The temperature outside was above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the landscape was a desert. Pretty much no trees, only shrubs and small hills all over. But the highway was very busy and from inside an air conditioned car, it was a pleasant ...

Hills of varying sizes as well which surprised me. Here's me thinking a desert is flat!
Different varieties of cactus growing where not much else can.

Over the years the El Caminio Real gave way to ...

... once again into the time warp. The original diner from 1937 consisted of 9 stools at the counter and 3 booths. Today it is more than 5 times that size but the walls are covered in movie memorabilia. Peggy Sue worked in the movie industry hence the great collection. There is a fabulous souvenir shop attached that sold so much stuff. We spent ages just looking around and then decided to have lunch in the diner. Once again the service was so fast, the staff ...

Rhett, I took the picture of the snake for you. It was a little bigger than the one you almost stepped on at the campground!
Santa Monica Pier is the unofficial end of Route 66 so that was our destination. There is also a plaque dedicated to Will Rogers ...
