We drove south on the small roads to Modesto, where we joined Highway 99 and then we set the cruise control for the some 120 miles we needed to do. When we reached the place, the other group was already there and getting ready for a swim in the lake. We joined them promptly. The drive had been tiring, a straight highway followed by some winding roads and finally some unpaved roads before the last 50 yards of a gravel uphill drive that really needed a AWD.
